Racketlon: Pick It Up Today!

Racketlon: Pick It Up Today!

Looking for a new sport or fresh challenge for 2026? Try Racketlon!

That’s right, Racketlon. It combines the world’s four biggest racket sports into one mega-sport. Just like triathlon or decathlon, but with table tennis, badminton, squash and tennis.

If your tongue gets tied trying to say it, you’re not alone. Luckily, Racketlon is easier to play than it is to say. Know which way round to hold a racket? Then you can play Racketlon!

How does it work?

  • In a Racketlon match, you play your opponent across table tennis 🏓, badminton 🏸, squash ⚫️ and tennis 🎾 in that order.
  • It’s first to 21 in each, change server every two points, otherwise standard rules of each sport apply.
  • Scores are cumulative, and the winner is the player with the most points at the end of all four sports.

An exciting and dynamic format

It’s a great format because the balance of each match is always shifting. You might suffer a heavy defeat in table tennis, only to turn the (metaphorical) tables in badminton, leaving it delicately poised as you head into squash and then tennis.

What’s more: Every. Point. Counts. This makes close matches thrilling (and stressful!) to play and watch, with single point margins surprisingly common. In the event of a tie, you play a one-point decider in tennis (with no second serve) called a ‘gummi-arm’. It’s as scary exciting as it sounds!

Tournaments across the UK

While many players play at clubs in the four individual sports, Racketlon itself is played at one-day tournaments scattered across the country and the calendar. These take place at big sporting complexes chosen for their size, facilities and accessibility. In 2025 there were 17 tournaments across the length and breadth of the UK, from Edinburgh to Devon.

Tournaments are round robin or knockout format depending on numbers, with different gender, age and ability categories on offer, including juniors, seniors, singles and doubles. Matches last an hour or more, and with up to four matches in a tournament, it can make for a tiring day! Perfect for burning off all those Christmas calories!

Lots of tournaments are already confirmed for 2026, with more to be added soon.

Run by volunteers

The sport is governed in this country by UK Racketlon, a voluntary body operating since 2015 when it evolved from English Racketlon (itself set up in 2003).

Run by a board of six volunteers, and with generous help from a legion of tournament organisers and other helpers, they’re funded entirely by player entry fees and sponsorship.

And they do an incredible job, delivering a sport enjoyed by around 330 unique players every year on the UK Tour, and entering a dozen junior, senior and open teams in the World Team Championships, regularly winning several team titles.

A welcoming and affordable sport

Taking part in Racketlon is easy and affordable! Tournament entries are administered on Tournament Software – all it takes is a quick registration and away you go. Entry fees averaged around £30 in 2025: great value for a whole day’s play! Pre-event comms will give you all the crucial info you need, while on the day the event desk will answer all your questions and tell you when and where to play. You can even borrow rackets if you don’t have your own!

A friendly and competitive community

Racketlon is a small but inclusive sport, with players aged under 10 to over 70, from a diverse range of backgrounds. You’ll be in the company of many other sociable and supportive players, meaning new friends – and new rivals!

That’s because you’ll find a real competitive camaraderie running through Racketlon, where matches are hard-fought and keenly contested, but with an overriding spirit of enjoyment and respect.

The atmosphere is always very welcoming which makes it ideal for newcomers, and most tournaments include categories for beginners and first-timers too.

Give Racketlon a go this year!

Racketlon is fast, fun, friendly… and for you!

Why not pick up a racket (or four) and give it a go this year – it might just be your new favourite sport!

GB Selection Committee and 2024 World Team Championships Selection

GB Selection Committee and 2024 World Team Championships Selection

Hi everyone,

Ahead of the British Championships entry opening, I wanted to give you all a little bit of information regarding the new GB Selection Committee and team selection for 2024. Johnny Bispham has stepped down as captain of the panel due to his new role as UK Racketlon President.

Ray Jordan and Duncan Stahl will also no longer be continuing on the panel, and we thank all of them for all the hard work put into the teams over the past few years.

This means that I [Matilda Parslow] will take over as captain of the selection committee for this year. I’m delighted to announce that I will be joined by two new fresh faces. Peter Barton and Jack Bishop are both joining for the first time while former panelist Dan Busby will return in an advisory role.

World Team Championships / British Championships

The World Team Championships will be held in Rotterdam between August 1st and August 5th, and the GB Selection committee will be selecting our squads across the open categories and age groups (both junior and senior grades). Further information regarding the World Championships is due to be released soon.

As in previous years, selection will be based on a range of criteria including performance on the World Tour and UK Tour events. However, the primary selection opportunity is the British Championships which will be held at Parklangley on 13th-14th April.

Entry for the British Championships will open at 18:00 on Thursday, February 22 here.

For players who wish to represent an age group criteria, please ensure you enter that age group if it is offered at the British Championships.

Please note, we have changed our junior categories to align with the newly adopted FIR age groups. They are U12s, U14s, U16s, U18s and U21s.

If you are unable to attend the British Championships, but are eager to play in Rotterdam, please let the selection committee know by contacting me or one of the other committee members or grabbing one of us at a tournament.

If you have any questions about anything at all regarding the World Teams Championships then please don’t hesitate to reach out to me.

Thank you and good luck to everyone in all the upcoming tournaments.

World Tour Racketlon Returns to Redbridge

The tournament will take place on Monday, May 6, which coincides with the Bank Holiday in the United Kingdom. This provides a perfect opportunity for players to showcase their skills.

It is also a perfect opportunity for those heading to Denmark a few days later for the World Doubles Championship. It will provide one final opportunity for players to sharpen their skills ahead of the landmark event.

What to expect at the SAT Redbridge Open?

This will be a four-court venue, with indoor tennis courts. This means that we will have a capacity of over 80 players, making it one of the largest events on the UK Racketlon Tour in 2024.

All players competing in the tournament will receive World Ranking points when the new rankings are published at the start of June.

As this tournament is a Racketlon World Tour event, registration will need to be via fir.tournamentsoftware.com. Your standard UK Racketlon registration will not work and you will need a separate World Tour login. However, please note that players will not need an FIR License to compete.

We are also delighted to announce that, as this is a special event on the UK Racketlon calendar, we are able to reduce the entry fees to £30 for adults. Junior prices remain at £20.

County Championships Confirmed for June 16th at Keele University

County Championships Confirmed for June 16th at Keele University

UK Racketlon are delighted to confirm that the 2024 County Championships will return at the Keele University Sports Centre on Sunday, 16th June.

In 2023, Surrey were crowned County Championships, while Lincolnshire came home with the Division 2 title. Who will be victorious in 2024?

Entry for teams will open on Friday 23rd February and each match will consist of:

  • 3x Men’s Singles
  • 1x Women’s Singles
  • 1x Mixed Doubles
  • 1x Men’s Doubles

With each team containing a minimum of four players, of which one must be a woman. It’s worth noting that if a side contained two women, one could be nominated to play as a man throughout the tie. There is no limit on squad sizes and no requirement for the four singles players to also play doubles. Team make up is at the discretion of the captain.

Finding Your County

Teams are entered by the County Captain, who will pay the entry fee for the team of £125, as usual through Tournament Software.

Please be aware the usual rules regarding refunding entries due to withdrawal will apply. If you are intending to enter a team, please contact Tournament Director James Pope to let him know which county you will be captaining (you can do this in advance of entering). We will likely have capacity for 16 teams, playing in two Divisions of 8.

Not sure of who your county captain is? Please get in touch with James Pope who will be able to assist you in finding a County. The formal rules of eligibility are:

  1. Born in that County
  2. Currently live in that County
  3. Are a member of a Racketlon constituent sport (or a Racketlon Club) in that County
  4. Represented that County at your last County Championships

For example, James Pope can play for; Lancashire/Merseyside under rule one, Devon under rules two & three, or Cambridgeshire under rule four. When a player can play for multiple counties, they are able to choose which County side they play for, as all four of these rules are treated equally.

The County Championships will be played as 11-up in all rubbers. We are delighted to announce that the weekend will also feature the Staffordshire Open on Saturday, 15th June, and that the tournament will this year feature a unique Sprint Championships format. Sprint matches will also be 11-up, meaning that players will play more matches throughout the day.

Newcastle Classic 2024 Cancelled

Newcastle Classic 2024 Cancelled

We are disappointed to announce that the Newcastle Classic 2024 has been cancelled.

The tournament was schedule for Sunday, 3rd March at The Northumberland Club but unfortunately we are no longer able to run it for a number of reasons.

Entries already submitted will be refunded and we’d like to thank all those who entered for supporting the tournament.

We look forward to returning to the spectacular Northumberland Club later in the year in either October or November as part of the British Super Series. More information will be coming on that soon.

We also have many upcoming tournaments in the short term and a full calendar for the rest of the year. The season opener, the Garden City Open, is fast approaching as it will take place on Sunday, 25th February. The Men’s entry reached capacity in just over an hour but entries are still open for Women and Juniors.

Keep your eyes peeled for new tournament announcements very soon, including the opening of the British Championships and the return of the Redbridge Open.
