Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to have experience in all 4 sports to play Racketlon?

Not at all!. The majority of players new to racketlon have not competed in, or even played all 4 sports before.

How do I enter a tournament?

Tournament entries are done through Tournament Software. To enter a tournament you will need to create an account and then entry and payment is done through the Tournament software website.

How do I know which category to enter?

The category you enter should be based upon your playing level and experience across the 4 sports. Players new to racketlon are encouraged to enter a lower category unless the player has significant playing experience, at a club level, in at least 2 of the sports. Players who are unsure of which category to enter should contact the tournament organiser to discuss this further.

What order are the sports played in?

The order of the sports goes from smallest to largest racket, so a racketlon match will always start with table tennis, then badminton, squash and tennis will follow, respectively.

What happens if I lose my first match?

There is no need to panic should you lose your first match. Players are generally guaranteed 3 matches (unless a player withdraws). Tournaments are usually played in a Monrad format so you are competing for places rather than just the title.

What happens if we are level on points at the end of the tennis?

If the match is tied then a one point playoff in tennis is played (called a gummi-arm). So there is no advantage to the server, only one service allowed and the server is decided by a coin toss or racket spin.

How long does each racketlon match take?

A typical match lasts between 60 and 90 minutes, however this can vary depending on court availability and how close the match is. Sets need to be won by 2 clear points so in theory they could go on infinitely…

Can I borrow a racket or bat if I don’t own one?

It’s advisable to bring all the rackets that you need to play as it cannot be guaranteed that spares will be available. However, the racketlon community is very friendly so it is likely somebody would be willing to lend a spare racket if needed.

Will there be umpires to officiate the games?

It is unlikely, unless playing in a large international tournament, that there will be any officiating. Players are expected to call their own lines and settle any disputes amongst themselves. For squash, where the let and stroke decisions are more subjective, you may ask an experienced squash player to mark the game.
