The next event to open on the UK Tour will be the 2019 British Championships, on the 13th and 14th April. Our flagship UK Tour event of the year, we once again return to the fabulous Parklangley Club in Beckenham, London. With wonderful playing conditions and (at least) centre court referees for TT, Badminton and Tennis and guaranteed referees on all three Squash courts for all matches, the 2019 British Championships will provide one of the greatest playing environments of the season. Additionally there are plans afoot to arrange for the tournament to have onsite sports massage and racket stringer available for players! Finally, the Parklangley Club has a wonderful and spacious bar area serving a range of tasty food! If this isn’t enough to entice you into entering, then it is worth considering that the Team GB Selection Committee use British Championships results as a strong guide when selecting the teams who will represent Great Britain at the 2019 FIR World Team Championships. As such this event is a must if you hoping to earn GB Caps and international honours. Importantly, if you wish to play in a Vets or Junior team, you MUST play that age group as one of your singles categories at the British Championships.
Our National Singles Titles: Currently held by Hannah Boden & Leon Griffiths
In a change to recent seasons, the decision has been made to play ALL categories across both days. As such, all players will need to be available on both Saturday 13th and Sunday 14th April. While we are aware this asks a lot of our players, we have made this decision to enable players in the Vets and Junior classes to play both singles and doubles events. Additionally, we noted that a number of players travel to play both days and by moving to this new schedule, we ensure they have a better balance of play. In particular, we expect most banded singles categories to be 16 draw monrads, asking players to play 4 matches in a day in the old schedule. By spreading over 2 days, heavier singles loads can be interspersed with lighter doubles loads and give players the chance to rest and recover between matches. We believe this will improve player experience and ensure a higher quality of competition, befitting of our national championships.
Entry for the 2019 British Championships will open at noon on Friday 1st February here on Tournament Software and will close at noon on Friday 29th March. Players may enter a maximum of three categories, a mixture of two doubles and two singles classes. Entry fees are £30 for singles (£20 for junior singles events), and £35 per pair in doubles events (£17.50 per player). Players playing two singles events will receive a £5 discount (paid manually at the tournament!).
