European Championships - England Selection Criteria

With a big summer of Racketlon fast approaching, the ERA have been in discussion regarding one hot topic of interest; England Team selection.  The 1st European Racketlon Championships have been confirmed for Prague from Wednesday 25th to Sunday 29th November.  The event will be both a Singles (Thurs-Sun) and Team (Wed-Thurs), with England sending a contingent in full force.

With competition and interest for places obviously strong, a small group at the ERA have compiled the selection criteria for squad places:

  • Individual performances over the last 12 months at both UK and World Tour Events
  • Current UK ranking
  • Balance and make-up of each team squad: collective sport profiles, potential doubles pairings etc of each squad

It has also been decided to add in a qualifying criteria:

  • Entry to the 2015 Racket Masters (except for valid reason e.g. injury - if so please contact This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. with full details)

After the Racket Masters, the National Team Selection Panel (Duncan Stahl, Ray Jordan, Richard Middleton & Keith Lesser) will meet for the first time to discuss and compile their preferred squads, contacting players to gauge their interest, availability and willingness to play. It will also allow those players to book flights, accommodation, etc to the event.

It is important to note the following things, regarding selection:

  • If selected, players are expected to compete in at least 3 of the remaining 6 ERA tour events between the Racket Masters and European Championships (compensating for common sense such as long travel distances).
  • Tournament Entry and travel will be fully self-funded by the playing individual
  • England are likely to be sending 5 teams (England Elite, B, U21s, 45+ and 55+) - NOTE There is no C team unlike last year's World Teams.
