UK Racketlon

We’re Off The Edge Of The Map, Here There Be Nokia Lumia’s For the Champions

2015 is seeing some incredible changes in UK Racketlon, tournaments are jam packed, we have had liveried cars to chauffeur players around, whilst the Welsh Open has reached such a high level that it is now to be upgraded from Challenger to full International World Tour event status for next season.  We have had new tournaments such as the Shropshire Open and the Yorkshire Open was a 1 day event with 70 entries.  All this is thanks to the incredible hard work from the established volunteers and new people stepping up to help make UK Racketlon the best it can be.

However, despite all these mega-highs, George Roberts and the Staffordshire Open (Saturday 4th July) are blowing all these achievements away, like the Germans did to Brazil in the 2014 World Cup.  As a starting point, the Staffordshire Open takes place at Keele University, which provides high quality facilities & excellent courts in all 4 sports all found in beautiful surroundings.  Amazingly for this scribe, is the revelation that there is more to Keele than an M6 service station! For those wanting to travel, bed and breakfast accommodation is available onsite for £44 a night, including a full cooked breakfast (contact This email address is being protected from spambots. Ok, so cooked breakfast aside, this all sounds pretty standard, where are the rampaging German forwards of new Racketlon features?  Tournament director, George Roberts, a man of quite phenomenal character and bubbly energetic nature has left no stone unturned in his desire to launch the Staffordshire Open as a brilliant event.  Therefore, he has arranged:

  • A permanent trophy, so that each year the winner of the Staffordshire Open will be engraved on to a trophy.
  • The winners of the Elite Men and Elite Women events will take home a Nokia Lumia 640 phone (thanks to sponsorship from Pastel Solutions).
  • A range of prizes for the winner and runner up in every category in the tournament.

With the exception of the cash prizes for the FIR World Tour events hosted in the UK, this is the most that has ever been put up as a prizes for a UK based event.  So, if you fancy a new phone, then the time to enter is now!  A massive thank you to the tournament sponsors Pastel SolutionsFive Alive DrivesJohn Belfield International, & Perkins Plasterers.  Entry is available in to Men's A, B, C & D, Ladies A & B, U13's & U16's categories, entry is as ever online through Tournament Software.
