2014 World Championships Launched!
Surrey Sports Park
21st - 24th August 2014
Welcome to this special newsletter dedicated to the 14th Racketlon World Championships, to be held at the Surrey Sports Park in August 2014. For the first time, the UK will be the venue for the worlds biggest celebration of racket sports. Obviously a key question to be answered is:
Who is the best racket sports player in the world?
However, unique to Racketlon is that our World Championships are open to all, from the best in the world to the complete beginner.
This is everyone’s World Championship, your World Championships, all you have to do is enter!
Bar, maybe the Modern Pentathlon, no other sport forces a player to undertake different sports with very different skill sets. From the agility of squash to the finesse of table tennis, the speed of badminton to the power of tennis, the tactics, shots, movements and skills are so very different despite the shared similarity of a racket. Watching the very best in the world such as Jesper Ratzer and Natalie Zeoli (reigning singles world champions) display these ranging skills with such talent and seeming ease is a sight to behold, but the tenacious battling in the other classes with the match ups of strengths and weaknesses as players face opponents with such varied skills sets, highlights how adaptability becomes crucial.
The timings for the 2014 World Championships, will ensure that all players will be able to compete in their classes and also have time to witness the finals, both of their class and the elite finals. Combined with an onsite Athletes Village, players dinner and world class facilities at the Surrey Sports Park, we are aiming to make the 2014 Racketlon World Championships, the greatest event Racketlon has ever seen.
All that is missing, is you.
The 2014 World Championships organising committee, are unable to stress this enough, whilst the ability of the worlds best Racketlon players, and the crowning of the elite World Champions will be the pinnacle of the weekend, this event will be nothing without those players who make Racketlon what it is. No other sport has such close ties between the best in the world and its grass roots, and without those roots (such as this author! - Ed) this event would be nothing more than a regular tour event. We need you, we need your passion, we need your energy, we need your ability to take a 21-0 table tennis defeat in good nature knowing that squash is to come (that’s the author again - Ed) to make these World Championships what we want them to be, a celebration of racket sports and the perfect promotion of our sport, Racketlon.
Whether you have played events across the UK, Europe or on other continents, or whether you have only just heard of Racketlon, there is a category for you, a chance for you to compete, but perhaps more importantly, experience playing a World Championships.
This newsletter contains all the information you should need to get started in entering the 2014 Racketlon World Championships, but please do no hesitate to contact the organising committee if you have any questions.
We look forward to seeing you there.
