British Open Deadline Approaches
After no tournament in 2010, this tournament returns to the circuit after being held in 2009 at Gosling Sports Centre.
The British Open is well travelled and in 2008 was held at Ipswich Sports Club.
The 2011 event will take place at the excellent Esporta, Croydon, now an established racketlon venue and the 3rd tournament of the year at this venue. Under the drive and stewardship of resident member and badminton specialist, Rakesh Gupta (with ERA support) the tournament is bound to be another success.
This was after a large gap as there was no tournament 2005-2007, as this larger event was replaced by smaller regional tour events. The British Open 2003 and 2004 respectively were only the 2nd and 4th events held in England at this stage of the Sports development and were World Tour events attracting numerous travellers from Scandinavia especially.
The likes of Iron Man Magnus Eliasson and Rickard Persson are previous winners. The best British players could not get close to winning this event. In 2009, Jermaine Manners beat James Bird in the final. James has been absent on the tour of recent times. Bird did impress initially taking out the likes of Carl Jennings. In 2008 Jermaine won the event beating Ray Jordan in the final, which was Simon Whale's 1st tournament also. The number one seed in this tournament, World Number 22 Andrew Kim was despatched by Keith Lesser in the quarter finals and unseeded Jermaine Manners took care of Keith in the semi final.
Get your entry in early. There is still quite a lot of space but certain events are filling up.
