UK Racketlon

The 2008 World Championships draws are published, with mixed prospects for home competitors...

The draws for the 2008 World Championships are out, and many of England's top racketlon players will journey to Germany as the curtain falls on the 2008 season. English players will strongly contest in a number of categories, with gold medal hopes for several players.

Perhaps the best gold medal prospect will be Richard Whitehouse, who has been dominating 'over 55' Racketlon in recent years. Last year's World Champion, Sten Lindstrom (FIN), results permitting, may provide an early round opponent for Richard.

Natalie Lawrence, the only English women in the draw, will be looking to upset the seedings and take her first world singles title. With a strong squash improvement, Natalie is a certain contender.

In the 'Mens A' competition, english entries, hoping to make their mark, have had differing fortunes resulting from the draw. John O'Donnell will hope to make it to the last 16 to take on, as underdog, the 2008 English Open winner Stefan Adamsson (SWE).

Ray Jordan has a tough draw against Krzysztof Salmonek (POL), and John Foulds, should he reach the last 16, will likely encounter World Number One Magnus Eliasson (SWE), if he can overcome Petr Vesely (CZE).

Manners and Struthers find themselves in the toughest section of the draw. Struthers will likely face Mikko Karkainnen (FIN) in Round two and Manners, if he too progresses, will face Elmar Schaub (GER).

Good luck also to the National Team!
