The 5th Nottinghamshire Open 2012 Racketlon at the Park Squash Club was a great success. The rain threatened to spoil the outdoor tennis but in the end there were only a few light showers. Greg Mairs won the C event, winning all three of his table tennis games and dropping only 6 points in total in his three badminton games. In 2010 Neil Carlin won the C event and in 2011 he finished 3rd in the B event. This year, after three tough matches, he was victorious in the B event and is becoming a solid racketlon player.

In the A event, Carl Jennings (A event winner in 2009) and Duncan Stahl (4th in 2011) were the favourites to claim victory and the £50 prize money. There were no upsets in the 1st round matches, although Mark Johnson was pushed hard by Alex Banks. Stahl did not need to play tennis in his first or second round matches, and eased his way into the final. In the other semi-final, Hopwood took an early advantage against Jennings in the table tennis (21-4) which was quickly neutralised by a clinical badminton performance from Jennings (21-3). Jennings started strongly in the squash, but faded to lose 21-10 which left him to much to do in the tennis. Stahl was favourite in the final but Hopwood put himself in a good position, being 2 points up at the squash half-way stage. As the squash rallies took their toll, it was Stahl who had the stamina to win 22-20, leaving him a relatively easy target of 17 in the tennis. Congratulations to Duncan Stahl for winning the 2012 Nottinghamshire Open A event.
