Notts Open 2011 - Results

Thanks again to Andrew Hopwood for organising a great  Nottingham Open.

The full results and a short report is below.

Despite the rain the 4th Nottinghamshire racketlon was a great success. All three categories were stronger than last year and because of its popularity, several people were left dissapointed after entering too late.

In the A, Hartley (the defending champion), Stahl ( the number 1 seed) and J Sagoo (Letchworth finalist) were favourites. These three joined Busby (who beat no. 2 seed, Barnes) in the semi finals. The semi final between Hartley and Busby was the match of the day. Both are squash specialists and have never played each other at racketlon.

The tt and badminton went according to form so that they were level going into the squash. This put Hartley in a strong position, as his tennis is stronger- all he had to do was keep it close in the squash.

But Busby had a plan- he was not going to play defensive squash. He attacked at every opportunity and it paid off. After several gruelling ralies (Hartley almost looked as though he was out of breath!) Busby won 21-9. That left Busby needing 10 in the tennis. At 4-3 up, it seemed Busby was about to cause an upset. But Hartley maintained focus, winning 21-8. In the other semi Sagoo was pushed hard by Stahl, buy Sagoo was the eventual victor. Unfortunately, Sagoo was pushed hard enough to sustain an injury which prevented him playing thefinal- so Hartley regained the title and £50 prize money. Busby beat Stahl in the 3rd/4th playoff.

In the B event, Jennings beat Oliver in the final. In the C event Green beat Soos, with a performance that would have suited the B event.
