2009 English Open Draw

All draws and the ever important schedule are published. A full preview will follow in due course. NOTE - English Open is being held at Redbridge Sports Centre as per previous information.

The draw is very interesting indeed. Lesser, Jennings & Hartley will have to get through World Number 6 Michi Dickert from Austria in order to reach the semi finals. Ray Jordan & Tom Whitehouse have tough draws to achieve the same feat. Jermaine Manners is in the same quarter. One would not bet against the badminton specialist equalling or bettering his semi final feat of last year. Indeed, the British Number One's wins over John O'Donnell and Marcel Weigl in the 2008 English Open to reach the semi finals were a surprise to some, less so these days.

Jon Foulds needs to mix it with a strong foreign quarter, which is potentially the best quality quarter. Former Belgian Open Champion Bart Beks who famously defeated Doug Struthers in the epic 2008 final will be a hard nut to crack. Don't write off talented youngster Joey Schubert nor talented table tennis player Martin Björkryd.

Apart from Jermaine Manners, a dark horse for a Brit in the semi finals is tennis specialist Simon May. With a winnable first round against Andrew Kim, May could meet Jason Granville or Volker Sach and if May performs well would have a good shot at a semi!
